Original Summary
Hey everyone — I built a browser extension called Compressr that automatically evens out loudness while you watch videos, streams, and podcasts. The problem is painfully common: one minute the dialogue is quiet, the next minute an ad or explosion is suddenly blasting at full volume. I wanted something that makes audio feel consistent without constantly reaching for the volume knob. Compressr works in real time in the browser and keeps the processing local. It’s not uploading your audio anywhere — it applies loudness leveling and sudden-volume protection directly in the audio pipeline. It also has presets for different types of content, plus a comparison mode so you can hear the before/after difference. I’m building this as a side project because it solves a real annoyance I hit constantly while watching YouTube, Twitch, and other browser-based media. The current version is a working prototype, and I’m mainly validating the core UX and figuring out which browsers and use cases matter most. I’d really appreciate feedback on: Does this feel like a useful product to you? Is the value obvious immediately? Would you use something like this if it was available as a browser extension? I’m also curious how people think about privacy and local-only audio processing — does that matter to you, or is it just a bonus? If it’s interesting, I can share a bit more technical detail about how it works and what I’m working on next. Thanks for reading. https://compressr.io submitted by /u/rainmanjam [link] [comments]
