Original Summary
I had books I was excited to read and somehow still spent over 8 hours a day on my phone. I'd tried screen time limits plenty of times. The problem was that when a block appeared, I'd just bypass it. Or disable the app. Or delete it. I still wanted something to do, and scrolling was right there. A little pocket e-reader helped more than I expected. I was already used to holding something in my hand and reading off it for hours. Switching to a book felt surprisingly familiar, especially once I stopped picking things I felt I should read and chose something I actually wanted to get lost in. I started reading for an hour before bed. Around 20 days in, I noticed I was waking up at 8am without an alarm. I'd spent years trying to fix my sleep schedule and had pretty much accepted being a night owl, so that caught me off guard. That's just what happened for me, but it made me want to keep the routine going. That's where inkhour came from. It's an iOS app that blocks apps at the reading time you choose each day. Every completed reading day leaves an ink blot, so you can see yourself showing up over time. I wanted the reading to be the interesting part. The app gives it a place in the day. It's up at https://inkhour.xyz . No account required, and reading data stays on your device. Would love to hear from anyone who's built something around a habit they were struggling with themselves. Did you keep using it once the excitement of building it wore off? submitted by /u/Embarrassed_Slide597 [link] [comments]
