Hey all, I started building a real-time Chinese-English interpreting tool (A6 Relay) and wanted to share where it's at. Back story: I wrote a Master's thesis on this a few years ago, but the AI available at the time wasn't good enough to keep translation quality up, so I shelved it. Now that the tech's caught up, I thought I'd give it another go. The hardest part turned out to be specific to this language pair: Chinese often puts the verb or subject at the end of a sentence, so a system translating word-by-word either waits too long (dead air) or guesses early and gets it wrong. Most of the real engineering work went into deciding when it's safe to start translating a partial sentence, not the translation itself. It's bootstrapped, and I've got some free API credits covering costs right now, so I wanted to get real feedback while it's free to test.
