I’ve been building a desktop app called OmniConvert alongside university, and I’m finally getting close to the first public release. The idea is simple: instead of using a different website for every file task, I wanted one desktop app for converting, compressing and working with files locally. Right now I’m focusing on things like: image conversion and compression PDF tools audio/video conversion QR and utility tools downloadable modules, so the base app stays lightweight One of the main ideas is privacy — files are processed locally instead of being uploaded to random converter websites. The first version will be completely free . I’ve been doing the design, development and infrastructure mostly by myself, so getting this close to release feels pretty unreal. I’m planning to put the first public build online in the next few days. Before I release it, I’d really like some honest feedback: What would make you actually try a desktop file converter instead of using online tools?
