My laptop slowed down badly when ventilation was poor, and I wanted a temperature reading I could keep visible while changing the setup. I made Drive Temperature Tray to put the selected drive’s SMART temperature as a number in the Windows notification area. It reads through smartctl every two seconds by default, supports drives that report a temperature (SSD or HDD), lets you pick a device and set color thresholds, and shows -- if a read fails rather than leaving a stale number. It measures the drive only, not the CPU or the whole laptop. I built it with Codex and refined the UI after trying it on my machine. It runs on Windows 10/11 with .NET Framework 4.8 and needs smartmontools installed separately.
