My car is old and has no Android Auto. The built-in GPS is terrible, so I use Google Maps on my phone. I don't have a mount, so the phone just lies in that little nook at the bottom of the center console. That setup has two annoying problems: - Auto brightness thinks the car is dark and dims the screen. Then the sun hits it and I can't read the map. - The phone lies almost flat in the nook, so every bump or corner makes Maps flip between portrait and landscape. I used to fix it by hand every time: turn off auto rotate, turn brightness to max. Then I'd forget to switch it back, and that night in bed the phone would blind me and refuse to rotate. Then I tried a few apps like Tasker, where you can connect a trigger (bluetooth connection) to an effect (display settings) on the phone, but it was pretty unreliable. So I made DashLock. When your phone connects to the car's Bluetooth, it locks the rotation and sets the brightness to max or any level you pick. When you turn the car off, your normal settings come back. You set it up once and never think about it again. What it does: - Locks portrait or landscape for the whole drive - Sets brightness to max or your own level - Restores your original settings when you leave the car - Works with cars you never paired: it can recognize a switched-on car by its Bluetooth - Works with Maps, Waze, or any other nav app, wherever your phone sits The free version has pretty much everything the average driver needs. I also added a one-time Pro unlock, mostly to feed my cats. It allows to register more than one car, and provide a rotation lock that only kicks in while Maps is on screen, so YouTube still rotates normally.
