I'm a data scientist based in London with Jamaican roots. Grocery prices in Jamaica are high and vary a lot between stores, but there was no easy way to compare them. So I built PriceRunJA — it scrapes 5 supermarket websites weekly and lets you compare prices side by side. Stack: Next.js + Tailwind on Vercel, Neon Postgres, Python pipeline on Railway for scraping/classification/matching. Hardest problems: Two supermarkets use Cloudflare — had to build a dual-mode scraper (browser-based for cloud, TLS fingerprint replay for local) Matching the same product across stores when every supermarket names things differently ("Grace Tomato Ketchup 13.5oz" vs "GRACE KETCHUP PLASTIC BOTTLE") Running on ~$15/month total (Neon + Railway + Vercel free tier) Currently tracking ~45,000 products across PriceSmart, Hi-Lo, Loshusan, Sampars, and Gibbo Trading.
