Original Summary
I recently changed the way I’m positioning an iOS app I’ve been building. Originally, I called it The Agora: Philosophy Debates. The problem was that “debate” described what you do inside the app, but not really why someone would want it. I originally built it because I wanted to learn more philosophy, but I struggled with traditional ways of learning it. Reading the original works could be difficult to fully understand, while videos and podcasts were easier to consume but I noticed I wasn’t retaining much afterward. What worked better for me was actually having to engage with an idea, take a position, explain why I believed it, and respond when that reasoning was challenged. So I recently repositioned the app as The Agora: Learn Philosophy. Debate is still a major part of the product, but now I’m treating it as the method rather than the value proposition. It’s made me think a lot about how easy it is as a builder to market what your product does instead of the problem it actually solves. For other founders, have you ever realized you were positioning your product around a feature instead of the outcome? Did changing the positioning actually affect conversion or retention? If anyone wants to see the product for context: The Agora: Learn Philosophy https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-agora-philosophy-debates/id6762416967 submitted by /u/23Windy1City33 [link] [comments]
