Original Summary
I’ve been trying to find a repeatable and easier way to make product videos without recording the same walkthrough every time the UI changes. A few days ago, I built and published an 80-second demo in Remotion using reusable React scenes. The demo project itself was fictional. I rendered its saved HTML directly, then rebuilt the setup, review, and checkpoint screens from saved evidence. I labeled the whole thing as an animated walkthrough, with the new-chat continuation marked as illustrated. The render was fine, I guess. But the hard part was deciding what to leave out, and I’m terrible at these decisions. I wanted to show setup, the main workflow, two review steps, the changes made after review, the saved checkpoint, and what happens when work continues in a new chat. That is a lot to fit into 80 seconds! Every extra detail made the video less clear, even when the animation looked better. I think the next time I do this, I’ll write a rough 60- to 90-second story first, lock the scenes, and only then start polishing the visuals. Here’s what helped me the most so far: - Building one scene at a time and checking still frames before rendering everything - Keeping a source list for each product claim and visual - Using real output where I could, then labeling reconstructed screens honestly - Getting the story right before polishing transitions - Reviewing the exact final MP4 instead of assuming clean source code meant a clean video The biggest advantage is reuse. If the product copy, colors, or workflow changes, I can edit the scene instead of re-recording the entire walkthrough. The biggest downside I’ve found so far is that Remotion gives you enough control to waste hours polishing motion that does not make the product easier to understand. My takeaway so far is that it makes sense for a product that will need repeated demos and updates. For one simple screen recording, it is probably overkill, and maybe I’m just overthinking it. If you make product demos regularly, where does most of the rework happen for you? Is it the story, the recording, or keeping the UI current? submitted by /u/softdeveloper23 [link] [comments]
