I’ve been building a GLP-1 tracking app as a side project for the last 5 months. I started it as my tracking tool after my logs outgrew notes and ChatGPT. I love data and wanted to project scenarios of what ifs changed meds (as there is no doctor guidance for when to titrate in many jurisdictions). My day job is running scenarios. It launched as GLPzy and has had around 13.5k downloads so far. The app itself has been doing pretty well and the reviews have been really positive, but I kept seeing the same strange problem. People would hear about it on Facebook, search for GLPzy in the App Store, and still struggle to find it. Eventually I started wondering if the name itself was the problem. GLPzy was meant to read as “GLP easy”. That made perfect sense to me when I came up with it, but I’m not sure it did to everyone else. If you don’t immediately see the “easy” bit, it’s basically five consonants together and there isn’t an obvious way to pronounce it. So I made the slightly uncomfortable decision to rename it after 13.5k downloads. GLPzy is now OneGLP. I’ve changed the App Store name and logo and moved the website to oneglp.app. I still need to finish redirecting the old GLPzy site properly. The new version only went live today, but OneGLP / One GLP is already showing at #1 for the new name in both the US and UK App Stores. It’s also still #1 when searching for GLPzy, so at least initially it looks like the old App Store search history hasn’t disappeared. Google hasn’t caught up with the change yet. I’ve also got a Founding User Lifetime Premium offer running at the moment, which made the timing slightly more awkward. I didn’t really want new users discovering it under one name while I knew I was probably going to change it shortly afterwards. I made it free whilst I iterate fast on feedback - I didn’t feel I could charge for something that wasn’t complete in every way, but then anyone who supports now get the complete version as a free upgrade when I get it there. It’s come quite far already. I went backwards and forwards on the rename for quite a while. 13.5k downloads is enough that GLPzy had some recognition, but probably not enough that the name was worth keeping if people couldn’t spell it, pronounce it or reliably find it. My thinking in the end was that if I was ever going to change it, doing it after 5 months was probably a lot less painful than doing it after 2 years. Still too early to know whether it was the right call.
