I built VoiceForge, a desktop dictation app for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It's $79 once, with no recurring VoiceForge app subscription. I use it to speak prompts into Codex. Website and 13-second demo: usevoiceforge.com . You choose how transcription runs: Local Whisper: download a model and transcribe on your computer without an API key. Cloud: use your own key from a supported provider, including Groq. Groq has a free tier with usage limits; paid API usage is separate from the app price. AI text cleanup is optional. Keep cloud transcription and cloud cleanup off if you want the workflow to stay local. The tradeoff is setup: you choose a local model or configure your provider key. Local speed depends on your hardware. In return, you control the transcription setup and avoid another app subscription. For people who already use dictation: would you prefer a one-time app purchase with your own provider, or a subscription that handles the setup for you?
