This happened today. My co-founder and I had a meeting scheduled with an international startup founder. We were supposed to help him with ChatGPT ads for a Chrome extension he was building. We agreed on a time, joined the call first, and spent the first minute talking about what he was building and how we could help. Then he joined. We asked how he was doing. He introduced himself. We introduced ourselves. The moment he realized we were Indian, he went completely silent. A few seconds later... we were blocked. That's it. Meeting over. Honestly, it caught me off guard. As a founder, I've spoken to people from different countries, different accents, different backgrounds. I've never once thought, "Should I judge this person because of where they're from?" I care about one thing: can they solve the problem? Today someone judged us before we even got to talk about the work. It sucked for a few minutes, but it's also part of building a business online. Not every rejection is about your product or your pricing. Sometimes it's just prejudice. The funny part is we had already prepared ideas for his startup. Anyway, lesson learned. I'd rather spend time working with founders and business owners who care about results than convincing someone to look past an accent.
