I've been building Lasco, an Android photo library and backup app for people who want more control over where their photo library lives. Today you can self-host something like Immich and take responsibility for running and maintaining the server, or you can use a hosted service, in the best case end-to-end encrypted. In both cases, you can't do external backups natively. Lasco is a middle path: it's just an app, there is no photo server to run. It syncs directly to your own S3-compatible bucket, USB drive, or NAS (there is also a managed cloud plan). Everything is encrypted. It handles multi-devices use with CRDT algorithms. And if you want to backup, just plug a USB drive and sync to it. If you use a NAS I would especially like to hear from you. Currently only smb is supported. Which connection method should I prioritize next ? Would it be useful to setup an VPN or a tailscale connection directly in the app ?
