Original Summary
Hey all, I’m building GoSocial (gosocial.uk) and would genuinely love some honest opinions before I go too far down the rabbit hole. The basic idea is a localized event and social ecosystem built around a B2B2C model. It’s free for consumers and organisers, with £0 hosting fees, while monetisation comes from local businesses and venues that want to capture active consumer intent and drive more weekday and weekend footfall. I’m also working on a Trust Factor system using passive 400m geofencing plus a 20 minute dwell time check to help verify attendance. The idea is that if you consistently show up, you build reputation and potentially unlock higher tiers and perks, while repeated no shows gradually reduce your score. Monetisation is planned but intentionally gated during the initial beta. Stripe and paid ticketing are already part of the business plan, but I want to get business verification working properly first so we don’t end up with scam or fake events. The goal is basically zero admin for hosts, with no manual roll calls or standing at the door checking tickets, and attendance happening automatically in the background. I’m starting small in Shoreditch, London, where there’s an obvious demand for meeting people IRL and joining interest based, casual communities without everything turning into dating, huge events or another £20 a month subscription. Existing tools like WhatsApp and Eventbrite are easy to use, but no shows can be brutal for organisers and venues, while some legacy social and event platforms charge organisers £20 to £45 a month just to run things like run clubs, board game nights or language meetups. I’m a solo, non technical founder with a background in technical SEO and marketing, currently working on the core geospatial side, and I’d eventually love to find a tech leaning co founder or short term collaborator who enjoys breaking things, building things and telling me when an idea is actually good or terrible 😂. There are a few things I’d particularly love feedback on. First, the reverse hook. Most social apps use notifications and variable rewards to keep people glued to their phones, whereas I’m trying to use similar behavioural principles to do the opposite and get people off the app and physically into a local venue, park or event. Is that an interesting application of behavioural design, or does it sound overly ambitious? Second, how would you handle the gated beta? I want to restrict monetisation initially until business registration and verification is solid to reduce fake or scam events, but that could also exclude legitimate individuals such as freelance instructors, coaches, hobby organisers or people running occasional paid workshops. Third, does a public or private Trust Factor actually make people more likely to show up, or would someone get annoyed after missing a rainy Tuesday event and immediately delete the app? I’m particularly interested in whether reputation systems genuinely work for offline behaviour. F
