There was a story at our recent WOL:AI summit about a founder who'd had the same idea since 2016, letting people build things without knowing how to code. For eight years he built toward it by hand-coding every interaction himself, one workaround at a time. When generative AI actually became usable for this, he finally had a way to build the same one properly. Revenue went from 10 million to 300 million in a single year once that happened. But it took years for the tech to catch up with his idea, and that's a lot of missed revenue. A lot of instructional design ambition is stuck in the same spot right now. People have had ideas for years about fully adaptive, personalized learning paths that respond to what a learner is actually stuck on, not just what module they're on.
