Original Summary
When I started building websites, I thought having the skill was enough. It wasn’t. I spent months cold calling businesses and getting rejected. I was basically selling “I can build you a website” without giving people a strong reason to actually want one from me. Eventually I got lucky. I found someone who needed a site, offered to build it really cheaply, and he jumped at it. That made me start looking for more people in similar situations. I noticed a recurring pain: some businesses were paying developers ongoing fees just to keep their websites running, and leaving could mean ending up with a site that was difficult to maintain or started breaking. So I changed the offer. Instead of another ongoing arrangement, I offered to build the site for a one-time fee so they could actually own it. From that change I went from having a skill to having an offer people actually wanted. It also made me realise how much time I’d spent trying to brute-force my way through rejection before figuring out what people actually cared about. That’s what led me to build ValueStack . You tell it what you already know how to do, your experience, interests and constraints. It helps you work backwards from that to find where those things could actually be valuable, who might pay for them, and what the offer could look like. I built it for people who can do things but are stuck at: “Okay, but what should I actually sell?” (Would love feedback on the concept, especially if this is a problem you’ve had yourself.) submitted by /u/Hearthisidea [link] [comments]
