Original Summary
I got tired of screen-time blockers that basically work like Opal. Set limit and hope. So I built Ravelo around a different idea: what if your screen time worked like money? You earn minutes by spending time in apps you consider useful, completing focus sessions. Those minutes go into your Time Account. Then, if you want to open Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, or any other distracting app — you spend the time you previously earned. 10 minutes earned = 10 minutes you can actually spend. When the purchased time runs out, the app gets blocked again. The goal isn’t to make people stop using social media. It’s to make leisure time feel intentional instead of infinite. This approach is good for two reasons. You don’t have to start a focus session first in order to lock the app. That takes away the moment of impulse when you’re on the verge of giving in. You’re left with a feeling of guilt after your entertainment. You’ve truly earned it through productive work. I’ve been building Ravelo solo for the past seven months, and it’s now live on the App Store. Would love to hear what you think about the core mechanic itself — does treating time as a currency make sense to you? https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ravelo-screen-time-banking/id6760021476 Or, learn more about Ravelo here: https://ravelo.app/ P.S Yes, I know about Unrot, which has a similar concept, but I wasn't accepted for an internship at Revolut (lol, what's goin' on with job market in Eastern Europe) , and I'm really interested in banking — that's why I adapted the idea of time as a currency into the form of a “bank for time.” P.S.S Also, I've hidden a really risky joke that reflects our culture of doing nothing. Try collecting your Daily Allowance for a week without working a single minute, and you'll get a unique skin, I promise, you'll be surprised 💀 submitted by /u/rakovskyyyy [link] [comments]
