Original Summary

Browser extensions never worked for me. I could disable them in two clicks whenever I was weak. So I built something that blocks the whole device instead. What it does - Always-on blocking of porn, gambling, piracy, and VPN/proxy bypass - Social media (Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube) is hard-blocked 8pm-9am and open the rest of the day, with a manual toggle - Messaging is never touched: WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, Slack, Discord, all of it. Only feed-style social content is blocked on the schedule. - Anything that isn't on the blocklists just works. - The "disable" button is a deliberate 24h countdown that never finishes How it works It filters at the DNS/VPN level on the device. There's no backend, no account, and no telemetry. Everything stays local. It's free and open source. GitHub: https://github.com/pratikkuikel/distraction-free Product Hunt (launched today): https://www.producthunt.com/products/distraction-free?launch=distraction-free I'd like feedback on the "can't easily undo it" design. Is a 24h countdown that never finishes too harsh, or is that the point? There's also a built-in diagnostic log you can export if you hit a bug. Attach it to a GitHub issue and I'll dig in. submitted by /u/Cold_Mark_4198 [link] [comments]
