I made an app called Almaniac that started as a pretty straightforward calendar converter and turned into a rabbit hole. You pick a date and Almaniac shows you that same date across 20 different calendar systems. It has the usual Gregorian and Julian calendars, but also Persian, Islamic, Hebrew, Ethiopian, Coptic, Chinese, Maya, French Republican, Discordian and a bunch of others. The part I ended up enjoying most was learning just how differently people have approached something as basic as figuring out what day it is.
