As we're both product-people, we're now forced out of our comfort zone to think about distribution, marketing, SEO, all that fun stuff that comes with trying to find product market fit. Honestly we're now just trying a bunch of different things to see what sticks, and have fun along the way. So on a Monday last August, we remembered there'd be an eclipse over Europe Wednesday eve, and as it'd be low in the sky, knowing where the horizon would be clear from buildings etc would be a thing people would look for. So we thought: let's build a fun map with fancy and see if we can ride the momentum of a 'trending' topic + dog-food our own product along the way. We made the map in under an hour, prepped a blog post covering the practical stuff people would search for like times, safety, official spots, and in the morning started promoting it in a handful of subreddits (while respecting the rules) of Dutch towns and cities. The result: 26k views, 7.4k 'users', and ~20 signups for our product. For context, we think thats a decent amount of signups considering we don't spam the visitor with CTA's to 'go build your own map, click here!!!'. Maybe we should make our small watermark a bit bigger and prominent, but hey, that's a learning for us too :) Just a reminder that even when you're still a nobody (like us), you can get views with €0 spent on ads, just SEO and a handful of Reddit posts. submitted by /u/moredopamineplz [link] [comments]
