Original Summary
It's called Silent Bell . It taps your wrist a few times an hour and that's the entire app. No sound, no notification, nothing on the watch face. Nobody around you knows it happened. What the tap is for: it's a moment to notice where your attention actually is. You get tapped, you look up, and you catch yourself. Twenty minutes into a feed you didn't mean to open. Rereading the same paragraph. Jaw clenched, shoulders somewhere near your ears. Then you come back. That's the whole thing. It doesn't tell you what to do, track anything, or ask you to log how you felt. It just interrupts, and the noticing is yours. The idea is old. Monasteries ring a bell at intervals and everyone stops for a breath, whatever they were doing. I wanted that without the sound, so it works in an open-plan office or next to a sleeping child. The part I care about technically is the randomness. Every scheduled reminder I've used went invisible within a week, because once you can predict something you stop noticing it. So Silent Bell splits each hour into equal stretches and drops one tap at a random point inside each. You pick 1 to 10 an hour. You can't brace for it, so it stays a real interruption instead of turning into wallpaper. Build notes: watchOS only, no iPhone app at all, which turned out to be the hard part. Runs through Do Not Disturb, Sleep and Work Focus. No account, no network calls, no analytics, nothing collected, and the source is public so you can check that rather than take my word for it. The honest limitation: watchOS kills background sessions after about an hour, so the app pauses and asks you to tap Resume. I couldn't find a way around it and I'd rather say so than have you find out on day two. silentbell.app | App Store: apps.apple.com/app/id6795404742 | source: github.com/jakublipinski/Silent-Bell $4.99 once, no subscription, no ads, no free tier that nags you. Question for anyone who wants to weigh in: does that hourly Resume tap kill it for you, or is it an acceptable trade? I've gone back and forth on whether to keep fighting the constraint or accept it as part of the thing. submitted by /u/jakublipinski [link] [comments]
