Original Summary
Two businesses with the same skills and the same track record don't make the same money. The more visible one wins and this year "visible" has stopped meaning page one on Google. When someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini for a recommendation, either it says your name or it doesn't. I run a small AI agency and most of my work this year has drifted toward exactly that problem. The case that made it click was a client who does enterprise AI training. He had a decent site that ranks fine and a client list that would make you take the call. We asked a few AI tools who the best AI trainers were and they weren't anywhere. The LLMs had no idea they existed. Organic traffic is dropping because people get their answer inside the AI and never click through. Search engine optimization is quietly turning into search everywhere optimization where your website is one asset and every mention of you anywhere online is part of the picture. Start with this... Map everything that mentions you, like your own pages and videos, plus directory listings and other people's posts about you. That pile is basically the curriculum an LLM studies before deciding whether you deserve a recommendation. AI mentions aren't coming until the boring foundational SEO is done. I've had clients try to skip this and it doesn't work. Then check how each model actually sees you because they don't agree. From what we've seen, ChatGPT is fairly easy to impress and leans on volume, so if you're mentioned in a lot of places you show up. Gemini cares far more about who is citing you and whether you look like a real expert which is closer to how Google thinks about E-E-A-T. The gaps are where the work is... Find the prompts where competitors get named and you don't and build content around them. One thing that has worked well for us is write a core piece on a topic, then supporting pieces that answer the follow up questions the AI itself would ask next and chase citation quality over quantity. Lastly keep it human. Long form content that links to itself and FAQs that answer what people actually ask, all written by someone who knows the work and don't ignore Reddit and Quora. A surprising amount of what ChatGPT has cited over the past year came straight from threads which I find a little funny given how much of Reddit is bots now. None of this is hard. It's work and most businesses haven't started it which is the only reason it still counts as an edge. submitted by /u/Warm-Reaction-456 [link] [comments]
