Original Summary
I keep seeing some version of this: “I built the thing. Where should I promote it?” Reddit? X? Product Hunt? Directories? SEO? Cold email? I’m starting to think there’s a better question: Who already has the trust of the exact people who would use this? Say you built software for contractors. Instead of immediately figuring out how to reach 10k contractors yourself, who already has them? Trade educators. YouTubers. Equipment suppliers. Contractor communities. Consultants. Newsletters. Or you built something for creators. Who already teaches creators? Who runs their communities? What other products do they already buy? Who do they listen to when they’re trying to solve the problem your thing fixes? That feels like a much more useful starting point than picking a social platform and yelling into it. And I wouldn’t start by building an affiliate program either. Find one person/business with the right audience. Find one place where recommending the product actually makes sense. Track it. If their users convert and stick better than random traffic, then you might have something. Obviously this works better once you’ve got some evidence people actually want the product. Distribution can’t save something nobody wants. But for the projects that DO have users and still feel invisible, I think this is massively underused. Curious if anyone here has tried getting distribution this way instead of building the audience themselves. submitted by /u/PresidentEvil99 [link] [comments]
