Original Summary

A few days ago I posted here about getting my first paying customer. Since then I finally set up proper funnel tracking, and it showed me something I would never have guessed on my own. Here's what the data said: 12 people uploaded footage 8 of them clicked export 1 of them completed it Seven people built an entire video, hit export, and walked away. Not because the tool was broken. Because I was asking them to create an account before they got their file. I thought I was being smart. Gate the export, capture the email, convert later. What I was actually doing was asking for commitment from someone who had just done ten minutes of work and still had nothing to show for it. So I flipped it. The first export now completes with no account, full quality, no watermark. You get your video. Then I ask. I also fixed a bunch of bugs along the way, including one where the export failed completely for certain video formats. I only found that because one user wrote me a long, detailed email listing nine things wrong with my product. Best message I've ever received. Since the changes: 8 new signups and a second paying customer. Still tiny. Two customers is not a business. But going from "I think people like it" to "here is the exact moment they leave and here is what happens when I fix it" felt like the first time I was actually building instead of guessing. If you haven't set up funnel tracking on your thing, do it. I put it off for weeks because it felt like busywork compared to shipping features. It took an afternoon and immediately told me the one thing costing me almost every user. For anyone further along: what's the dumbest thing your analytics caught that you'd never have found on your own? https://usepreviewkit.com/ submitted by /u/Danteboiz420 [link] [comments]
