Full disclosure: I work on Wayfaro, so read this with that in mind. Posting it here because this is the comparison I'd have wanted before I started building. The thing I kept running into: every planner either hands you a chat or a map of pins, and the actual itinerary is still your job. Wanderlog. Free, great collaborative map, the best option if you're planning with friends. But you do the planning. It's a very good notebook, not a planner. Mindtrip. Chat-based, free, and it can book flights and hotels in the same place. Strong if booking matters to you. You're still assembling days out of chat answers though. Layla. Also chat-first, subscription. Nice conversational feel, same assembly problem, and you pay monthly whether or not you travel that month. TripIt. Forwards your confirmation emails into a timeline. Great once you've booked, doesn't plan anything. ChatGPT + Google Maps. Honestly the real competitor. It gives you a list, then you check every opening hour and route it yourself, and it'll happily send you across town and back twice in one afternoon. What I built: Wayfaro. You answer 10 questions (dates, who's coming, vibe, how far you're willing to walk, meals) and an agent goes off for 10 to 15 minutes, then hands back a finished day-by-day itinerary. Days are grouped by geography so you're not zigzagging, every stop carries opening hours, it looks for events happening during your actual dates, and there's transit between stops. The itinerary is a one-time purchase per trip rather than a monthly plan. It doesn't book anything, hours are live data so they're best effort rather than gospel, and it's iOS only right now. Where the others still beat it: Wanderlog for planning with a group, and for free. Mindtrip or Layla if you want booking in the same app. TripIt after you've booked. Curious what people here actually use, and where it breaks.
