Original Summary

I launched Maintra in May 2026 as a side project. It’s a vehicle maintenance app that helps people keep their service history, upcoming maintenance, expenses, fuel records, documents and tyres in one place. It also uses AI to build a maintenance plan based on the vehicle. I originally built it because I wanted something like this for my own cars. Most existing apps either focused mainly on fuel tracking or felt outdated and overloaded. Four months later: • 1,300 registered users • 11 paying subscribers • Around $33 MRR • Available on Android and iOS Built and maintained alongside my full-time job Obviously, these aren’t “quit your job” numbers. Financially, it’s still a hobby - and probably will remain one for quite a while. But seeing more than a thousand real people use something I originally built for myself feels cool ngl. It also taught me that getting downloads and getting paying customers are two very different problems. I’m currently trying to decide whether I should focus more aggressively on monetisation and distribution, or simply keep improving the product and let it grow organically. At what point did your side project start feeling like an actual business? And what would you focus on next with numbers like these? Happy to share more details about development, costs, conversion or what I’ve learned so far.
