Original Summary

Hi all! I want my kids to care about the environment - so I built an app for them and their friends (what else, I am a software engineer! 😅 ). The idea is to TURN WALKS INTO EXPEDITIONS . Inspired by our beloved Pokémon, but in the real world, with a 19th century naturalist theme. This is how it works: Take a photo of an animal. The identification is automatic - if it succeeds, you get a naturalist drawing inspired by Alexander von Humboldt. A drawing unlocks the corresponding entry in your bestiary . Trade duplicate drawings with your friends. Design principle #1: Smartphones are addictive - no gimmicks which pull you into the app. The game happens outside the app, not inside. The app should merely act as your Pokédex while you're on expeditions and become your "book" to read about the species once you're back on the sofa. My kids now keep yelling at me "I spotted a bug over there, take a picture immediately!" - Goal achieved, now 5min walks take 1h. Please let me know what you think and which features you'd love to see! :) PS: The app is called "Humboldt Expedition". It's free and without ads.
