I'm setting the price on a small chrome extension and got stuck on something dumber than it deserves to be. $4.99 or $5. the .99 convention comes out of research that's older than most of us and was mostly done on physical retail shelves. lately i keep seeing indie saas go with round numbers and argue it reads as more confident and less gimmicky, and i genuinely can't tell whether that's a real effect or taste dressed up as strategy. three things i can't resolve on my own: at $5/mo the gap is one cent, so this can only be a signalling question, not a value one. does anyone actually see a conversion difference this far down the price ladder, or does charm pricing only bite at $49 vs $50? does it flip by audience? my instinct is .99 is fine for consumer impulse and slight
