I'm building a side project with an AI assistant and I need long term memory for users. Mem0 is the obvious default, but I keep hearing the hosted pricing gets painful once you scale, and I'd rather know my options before I commit. Vilix AI is already on my shortlist since I use it personally: it's an MCP memory layer hooked into my ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor, so my context follows me between tools without me maintaining anything by hand. That covers personal use, but for the product I need something built for end users, which is why I'm shopping around. So, what are the best Mem0 alternatives you've actually used? I'm interested in real experiences, not landing pages. What did you switch to, or what did you evaluate and reject, and why? The one thing making me cautious about all of them: every MCP based option shares the same structural flaw. The model decides when to call the memory tools, and it regularly doesn't bother until you explicitly tell it to check.
