Original Summary

I’ve been working on a little side project, and I’d love some honest opinions from people who travel. I love traveling, and over the years I’ve accumulated tens of thousands of photos. The problem I kept running into wasn’t really organizing photos. It was remembering places. For example, a friend asks me about a restaurant I visited three years ago. I remember the food, maybe even have photos of it, but finding that exact place can be surprisingly difficult. So I started building an iPhone app that automatically reconstructs past trips from photo locations and dates, organizes places into categories like restaurants and attractions, and puts everything on an interactive map. And with video editors let you seamlessly customize the memories based on a detected trip and export to social media. It works pretty well with my own photo library. With nature language search with very ambiguous memories. But now I’m questioning whether this is actually useful to other people, or just something I personally find cool. 😂 After all, Apple Photos and Google Photos already do a lot, and most people probably don’t revisit their old travel photos that often. And there’s Polarsteps already solve some of the problems (but pretty bad on searching and not to say video editors ) I’m particularly curious about a few things: Have you ever genuinely struggled to find a place or memory from a past trip? How do you currently revisit or organize your travel memories? And will the ability to customize memories video from journeys photos helps you to share with loved ones? Would a map of your past travels be something you’d actually use, or just look at once and forget? What would make something like this worth using instead of Apple Photos? I’m not looking to promote the app here, so no links. I’m genuinely trying to understand whether I’m solving a real problem. Negative feedback is especially welcome. I’d rather find out now than spend another six months building something nobody needs. 😂 submitted by /u/Kooky_Shape_9375 [link] [comments]
