About a year ago, I built Hyallo , a website that lets you call real phone numbers directly from your browser. No apps, no subscriptions, just pay per minute. Credits never expire. I'm a Brazilian data engineer, and I started building it while I was living in the Netherlands. I used Skype Out to call banks and public services back in Brazil, since most of them don't have WhatsApp. When Skype shut down, I couldn't find a replacement without some catch: subscriptions, expiring credits, or requiring the other person to install an app. So I built my own. Fast forward to today: ~$4k in total revenue across September and October. $0 MRR. Everything comes from one-time credit purchases. Some users don't return for months. Most revenue comes from a handful of accounts that seem to belong to the same team calling one specific country. So it's basically one customer. When those accounts slowed down, so did my revenue. The free trial minute also got abused. One guy created ~70 Gmail accounts just to keep calling sex workers in Australia for free 😂 Now I'm trying to figure out what to do next. 1. Should I pick a niche or stay general? Right now, it's basically "cheap international calls from your browser." I'm considering focusing on small teams calling clients abroad. I already have team accounts with shared balances, and I could introduce monthly plans to build recurring revenue. But would narrowing down actually help, or just limit my market? Has anyone made a similar transition? 2. How would you approach SEO and growth? I get some traffic from ChatGPT every day, but very little from Google. I've tried different paid ad campaigns with disappointing results. For a product people only need occasionally, what would you focus on to get more customers? SEO, paid ads, a specific niche, or something else? I'd genuinely appreciate any advice, especially from founders who've dealt with unpredictable revenue or struggled to find their niche.
