I created an application, initially for my wife and I to share shopping lists, but it grew into an application for sharing tasks, tracking items for parties, and recipes for the family. I built it as I would like an app to look and feel with real-time update for friends and families. Every-List — shared shopping lists, a recipe box you can actually cook from, and per-store price tracking. The parts I’m happiest with: Cooking mode takes voice commands. Say “next”, “back”, or “step 6” with your hands covered in flour and it moves through the recipe, reading steps aloud. Screen stays awake. Photograph a handwritten list and it becomes items you can edit. Speak a run-on sentence — “two gallons of milk and a dozen eggs and some cheddar” — and it splits cleanly. Guest access. Invite someone who only sees the items assigned to them. Built it for a caterer; turns out families use it for kids. Household tier — one subscription covers six people, each with their own account. Stack: React Native + Expo (SDK 54), Firebase for auth/Firestore/Functions, RevenueCat for subscriptions, Claude for the photo and voice parsing. Ships to both stores from EAS. Things I learned the hard way: Enabling R8 cut my Android download from 41.6 MB to 24.5 MB. Most of it was icon fonts — I was importing from the expo/vector-icons barrel, which bundles all 19 font families when I use exactly one. A launch crash on fresh installs turned out to be App Check starting a network call at import time while the OTA update gate was tearing the JS context down. Moved the init past the update check. An “optimization” I made to drop an unused permission silently stripped RECORD_AUDIO from the Android manifest and killed voice input. Caught it because the iOS build failed to upload for a related reason.
