Original Summary

Hi all! First time sharing something on Reddit, I usually use X. So i got really curious about why cashback seems lower in Europe than in the US, and why so many different card programs use the same companies behind the scenes. That turned into reading Visa, Mastercard, Stripe documentation, using Claude to help piece it together, and mapping out all the different intermediaries we use daily that we have no idea about. The first artifact AI made was ugly, but helpful. I had an idea that it'd be fun to make a better visual showing the full journey of money. I built Follow the Money: https://followthemoney.emilylai.com/ You scroll through what happens to a $100 card payment, from authorization to clearing and settlement. It shows who gets paid, how credit, debit and stablecoin funding differ, and where all those intermediaries fit. I shared it with people who work in payments before launching. Another call out is that AI can synthesize a lot but there's still a lot of gaps that domain experts can quickly spot. Talking to people in the industry helped a lot. If you've ever been curious on how money moves, you might like this :) submitted by /u/emispresent [link] [comments]
