Original Summary
I'm a solo developer working on an iOS app for a pretty unglamorous niche: inspection and survey reporting. You photograph a site, drop numbered pins on the photo or floorplan, write observations against each pin, and it generates a PDF report on the device. I'm working through the distribution question and wanted a gut check from others here. My instinct is that selling to individual tradespeople directly is the wrong channel. The people who actually use this day-to-day (surveyors, inspectors, auditors) are usually tied to their employer's or their client's mandated software, so the buyer is arguably the small firm or the independent practitioner rather than the individual. For those of you selling B2B-ish tools to trade and field-work professions: did you go direct to individuals, or through the businesses that employ them? Did niche professional communities (forums, subreddits, trade associations) actually convert, or was it mostly word of mouth and App Store search? Genuinely interested in what worked, including the dead ends. submitted by /u/Au-en_Child [link] [comments]
