Original Summary
I have been doing founder-led distribution by hand for three weeks. No ads, no budget. Just commenting where my users actually are and posting every two or three days. Here is what the numbers say today. Comments: my last 100 comments cover 21 days. 79 of them sit at exactly one point. One point is the automatic self-upvote, so 79 out of 100 drew no reaction from a single human. Comment karma went from 25 to 38 in three weeks, which is 13 points for 100 comments. Posts: five in the last two weeks. Two of them pulled 14 and 17 comments. The other three pulled zero comments each, and are still sitting at one point. I assumed the difference was the writing, because I have been tuning the formula: confess a failure, include a real number, end with a lesson that is useful even if you never look at my product. The two that worked follow that formula. So do all three that died. The only thing the two winners have in common that the three losers don't is that they were posted in bigger subs. I cannot find a second variable. Three weeks of editing, and the input that moved the outcome was the room, not the sentence. What I don't know is whether that generalizes or whether it is just my n of five. If you have posted the same thing into a large sub and a small one, I would like to hear which way it went, because right now my working theory is that the craft I have been practising is the cheap half and the placement is the expensive half. submitted by /u/Wrong_Election189 [link] [comments]
