Original Summary
Hi, I'm Maria. I'm building a small app for couples, and for the last couple of months I've been a bit obsessed with one thing: making the screens react to you instead of just sitting there. These are some of them, plus a few things I learned along the way. A few rules ended up shaping almost everything. One reaction per moment. Every screen wanted something to happen. What worked was one small thing tied to what's actually on the screen. Each onboarding page gets exactly one tiny moment, a melt when the heart floats up, an "aha" at the quiz, a stamp on the coupon, and that's it. Celebrate the real thing. When you finish something, the animation uses what you just made, like your photo or your answers, not generic confetti. The UI eases out and stops. No bouncing, no overshoot on buttons and cards. Only the mascot gets to be a little dramatic, and even he only loses his cool once before he catches himself. Things that belong together move together. In our tower game the blocks first swayed one by one and it looked like jelly. Moving the whole tower as one piece made it feel heavy and real. Same with the mascot: when he hopped from block to block it felt busy, a quick fade felt calmer. Playing together has to feel live. This is where most of the polish went. A quiz race starts at the same moment for both of you (invite, join, go), you watch each other's progress fill in as it happens, and when you both pick the same answer a few hearts pop off the progress bar. In You or Me you both hold a button to settle who does the thing tonight, and the mascot referees the clash. Sound and touch count as animation too. Soft marimba sounds, no victory jingles, a few taps that are silent on purpose, and a little haptic tick as you pull him back on the slingshot. Honestly the hardest part wasn't making things move, it was deciding what shouldn't. Which of these would you keep, and which would get annoying after a week? Do you have micro interactions in your own apps? I'd love to see them, drop a clip or tell me about your favorite one. And if you're curious how any of these work, ask, happy to go into it. submitted by /u/Girl-Dev [link] [comments]
