Original Summary
Almost 30 years ago, I started editing videos for friends and family. I began by burning Video CDs (VCDs), eventually moved on to DVDs, and spent countless late nights digitizing old VHS tapes. My biggest hurdle back then was finding affordable software that could actually do the job. Capable tools cost a fortune, free options were limited to crude basic cuts, and rendering a short clip took painful hours on my old Pentium 200MHz setup. Parallel to my love for video, I was always coding as a hobby. That passion eventually led me to earn a degree in Computer Science and build a career as a software developer, where I finally made the switch to Mac. Fast forward to the beginning of this year: I decided to step out on my own to focus on building my own apps and managing their marketing. Everyone told me that short-form video was non-negotiable for growth, so I headed to the App Store to find a solid editor. I started with iMovie, but quickly hit a wall when I needed pro-level capabilities like multi-track video editing, auto-generated subtitles, color grading, beat detection, and flexible aspect ratio exports. As I searched for alternatives, my frustration only grew. The market felt completely broken: thousands of apps, locked basic features behind paywalls, or forced you to upload private footage to their cloud servers just to render. To top it off, when Apple finally launched Final Cut Pro for iPad, it didn't even support my 10th-generation iPad. Frustrated by missing features, privacy concerns, and artificial hardware limits, I realized if I wanted a fast, privacy-focused, feature-rich editor that worked on my device, I’d have to build it myself. So in January, I started coding RayCut Pro . Today, RayCut Pro is officially live! The newest iOS version is out now, and the Mac update is currently in review. It runs smoothly even on the 10th-gen iPad, keeps your data 100% local, and even supports custom LUT color profiles — a feature FCP for iPad still misses. The core version of RayCut Pro is completely free to download and use. I’d love for this community to try it out! Leave a comment below, and let me know whether you need a free promo code to unlock all premium features. I’m actively building and updating RayCut Pro every month. If there’s a specific feature you need or an improvement you’d like to see, let me know in the comments. I’d be happy to build it for you! submitted by /u/yourapps47 [link] [comments]
