Original Summary
I wanted to know what ordinary people write when they’re handed a huge audience for one day. So I built The Soapbox: a mailing list where each day one subscriber is picked at random and gets to write the email that goes to everyone. I read every email before it sends. The writer stays anonymous unless they sign off with their name, and replies go straight to them. Link: thesoapbox.email The numbers so far 57% of signups come from referrals. Every person you refer is an extra entry in the daily draw, so sharing is built into the product. That’s after 2 days. Product Hunt launched today. 6 upvotes and 2 page views in analytics. It’s early but is Product Hunt completely dead these days/impossible to gain traction with when you're an indie dev? Having the inbuilt sharing mechanic has been so much better than any other marketing channel I've tried (I know it's early though). I wish I'd built something similar into my other projects from the start! How I built it Design: I gave Claude Design some reference images and asked for a design system including brand voice. It worked far better than I expected. Planning: I used Matt Pocock’s grill-me skill to get Claude to interview me about the idea until the plan was clear. Building: Subagent-driven development. Opus 5.5 on low effort orchestrated, Sonnet 5.5 on medium did the implementing. Stack: SvelteKit on Cloudflare Workers, D1, Queues, cron triggers, Email Routing for replies. That’s idea to finished MVP, with full functionality and enough polish that it doesn’t look like a prototype IMO. I'm a reasonably proficient software engineer but this was the first time I've entirely vibe coded something and the results (after a bit of steering) have blown me away. Two questions for you: what would you write if you were drawn tomorrow, and what would you add to the referral mechanic while still keeping this as a fun project rather than something too growth hacky? submitted by /u/practisingdeeplurk [link] [comments]
