Original Summary
I'm the dev of Slean , a photo cleaner for iphone (and now android). I started building it in 2024 and shipped it in january 2025. I published the android version this year. a lot has changed since the first version. vibe-coded cleaner apps have flooded the market since then. I've leveraged AI a lot myself too, even the app store video attached here was made entirely with Claude, but I never changed the fundamentals or the simple, native-feeling design of Slean. these are the things I kept coming back to: 1. show me what's actually taking up space Slean shows the file size on every thumbnail and lets you sort the whole library biggest first. that came straight from my own camera roll. a few big videos or screen recordings can take up more space than hundreds of normal photos, but in the photos grid everything looks equally important. swiping through one photo at a time never felt like a very useful default for that. 2. sometimes I want to keep the file, just not all of it Slean can compress photos and videos with a before/after size preview, so you can see what you're actually saving before you keep the smaller version. 3. keep the photo analysis on the phone duplicates, similar shots and screenshots are processed on-device. no account, nothing uploaded. the app store privacy label is "data not collected". I am especially proud of the new "similar finder" algorithm. I spent weeks testing it with real people's galleries to get the results spot on. keeping the false positives low was the hardest part. similar-photo detection is a delicate balance. most cleaner apps just use native ios duplicate finder algorithm and call it a day. 4. no ads mostly because putting ads inside an app that's supposed to help you clean up clutter felt kind of backwards. I hate watching ads. I don't want to force anyone to do that. And ads mean a lot of trackers. 5. don't make it feel like a completely different gallery I tried to keep the navigation and general feel close to the native photos app. performance has always mattered more to me than flashy UI. I don't need extra screens and animations just for the sake of looking fancy. I didn't want people to learn a whole new way of browsing their library just to clean it, or end up in another swipe-to-delete flow. slean.app if you use a photo cleaner, what would you actually want to see first when you open it: your biggest files or duplicates? what feature would you want to see in Slean? happy to answer anything about building, publishing, Slean itself, or the app store review process. I've managed to get through review on the first try most of the time. I'd also genuinely like feedback on the app itself. submitted by /u/ajfrusciante [link] [comments]
