Original Summary
Suppose a service makes a synchronous call because traffic was low when it was built. A new feature changes the volume. Finding the old decision would explain the code, but I'd still want to revisit its assumption before implementing the change. That's an illustrative example of what I'm trying to work through with Shifu. Last time I posted here, I described Shifu as a career log for review preparation. It now has Execution for planning, implementation and review, and Growth for reflecting on your approach and feedback. Both use context from work you choose to share. With MCP and harness instructions, Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode can retrieve relevant saved history for a task. Sources include redacted assistant notes, existing Google Meet transcripts and optional work files. The awkward part comes after retrieval. I don't want finding an old decision to settle the question of whether we should keep following it. I'd want to read the source, check what the decision depended on, and work out what changed. If two records disagree, I'd want to understand that disagreement before choosing one. This is the test I'm interested in; I'm not claiming Shifu has solved it. I'd like to try this with engineers with 3+ professional years who use those coding tools on an existing product and keep having to reconstruct this context. Bring one upcoming feature and one supported source you're allowed to share. I'll help with setup. We can look at one recovered decision together and see whether it changes the plan, or whether it leaves you doing the same investigation. Afterwards, that history can also help you reflect on the decision you made. Shared material uses hosted AI processing. Raw coding prompts and session transcripts stay local; work-file uploads are not locally redacted. Please use only material you're permitted to share. I'm the builder: https://useshifu.com . What has made an old engineering decision stop applying in your work, and how did you notice? Please keep confidential details out of replies. submitted by /u/Spare_Bat_3040 [link] [comments]
