Original Summary

I've been building Lumae over the last few months because I record product demos almost every day, and I realized the recording itself only takes a few minutes. It's everything afterwards that takes time. Trimming mistakes, adding zooms, captions, voiceovers, blurring sensitive information, re-recording sections, and creating screenshots can easily turn a 5 minute recording into a 30 minute editing session. I wanted something that made that whole workflow feel native to macOS. The closest apps are probably Screen Studio and CleanShot X, but I found myself wanting something in between. Screen Studio makes beautiful videos, but I wanted a more traditional timeline editor where I could stitch together multiple recordings, re-record individual sections, record voiceovers afterwards, and import additional media. CleanShot is fantastic for screenshots and quick captures, but it isn't really built around producing longer, polished demos (although it turns out they just got a huge update!). So I built Lumae. It combines screen recording, timeline editing, annotated screenshots, captions, voiceovers, cursor-following zooms, and even an MCP server so an AI agent can edit the exact same project using the same editing commands as the UI. Everything is built natively in Swift using ScreenCaptureKit and AVFoundation. It's completely free while I'm gathering feedback. I'd genuinely love to hear what you think, especially if you record software demos regularly. https://lumae.app submitted by /u/Maty241 [link] [comments]
