Original Summary
It seems to be a common belief today that it has never been harder to start a SaaS business simply because of the sheer volume of competition flooding the market on a daily basis, thanks to AI tools that help anyone build out their own software. That's fair and true but I want to look beyond this as a problem that you just have to put up with, to see what opportunities this opens up. I think I've found one way of looking at this as an opportunity and it's through what I call "scenario collaborations". You find scenarios where you and multiple other startups can form a multi-party collaboration. The framework you follow for finding these startups and setting up the collaboration is: we sell to the same audience, we solve a similar problem but we do it differently. The "differently" could mean different features, different technologies, or one does workshops, one does consultancy, the other one solves it through content, and the fourth one solves it through an application. By following this framework you can quite easily line up who is a collaboration opportunity for you. You can do multiple startups in one collaboration, which is why I call it a scenario collaboration, because you create scenarios now for your users. What happens in practice is basically a multi-sided upsell/cross-sell opportunity where the marketing efforts are combined. You're not competing for the same attention anymore. You're aggregating the attention that all of you have combined and then through the upsells and cross-sells you give complete scenarios to each one of your users to solve the problem through whichever measures they require. On the backend you guys have rev share collaborations to make sure that it's a win-win situation for all of you. That way the one-man show competing with a thousand other one-man shows becomes a strong network, a strong ecosystem of players where you're not alone anymore. You're part of a larger context, a scenario. You're not anymore solving a tiny little niche, a tiny little problem with your micro SaaS. You're now selling a scenario with your role completing that specific task within it. The user wins, you win, your collaborator wins. submitted by /u/PasternakIvarsson [link] [comments]
