Original Summary

Hi all. Some of you might remember my post here in August. I was at 472 signups and around $41 MRR, and most of the money I had made came from three lifetime deals. This week the same side project crossed 1,000 signups. The first signup came in April (when we were in beta) and by the end of July I had 28, so I'm still a bit surprised by this. It's a tool for Instagram creators, and that's all I'll say about it because of this sub's rules. Where it stands now: 1,000+ signups 141,000+ messages sent by users' automations, about 57,000 of them in the last three weeks 1,100+ Reels scheduled through it MRR: $397 ( as I got multiple lifetime and yearly deals) What I changed since August: I cut my price. The main paid plan went from $19.99 to $9 a month, and I added a $9.99 plan for people who only want the one feature they signed up for. I know the usual advice here is to raise prices, and many folks showed it worked for them, but I wanted to experiment and if worked in my favour. I wrote help pages before blog posts. Short "how do I do X" answers, one question per page. These are the pages ChatGPT and Google actually pick up, and they're quicker to write than a 2,000-word blog post. I treat every complaint as a to-do list. One creator sent me a long message listing everything that annoyed him in one part of the app. Most of what shipped in the last update came from that one message. (This helped a lot) I put a small "sent via" line on free-plan messages. People were making several accounts to farm the free tier, which costs me money and never converts. The line makes the free plan pay for itself a little, and removing it is now a reason to upgrade. The hard part, and why I'm posting: Signups are easy. Getting people to the point where the product does something for them is the real problem. Out of 834 real signups by 1 Oct, only 246 connected their account (about 29%), and only 88 set up the main feature (about 11%). Everything I did above was about price and traffic, and I think the real leak is the first ten minutes after signup. Still bootstrapped, no VC, no paid ads. I did pay a few small creators to make videos about it. For those of you who got past this stage: did you fix activation first or pricing first? And what was the one onboarding change that moved the number for you? submitted by /u/piyush-sachdeva [link] [comments]
