Original Summary
Been thinking about how many apps end up needing some kind of community once they start getting users. Somewhere people can ask questions, share ideas or just talk about whatever they're using the app for. Having all that inside the app seems pretty useful but building your own chat sounds like a lot of extra work, especially if you're working on something by yourself or with a small team. I was reading about how Towns lets developers build messaging into their apps without having to make the whole thing from scratch. That seems pretty useful if the community is meant to be part of the product instead of something separate. Still not sure how much sense it makes for smaller projects though, especially when there's already so much other stuff to work on. Would be interested in hearing if adding messaging to an app is worth the extra effort or if it's better to focus on the main product first. submitted by /u/ChunkyCompleteness4 [link] [comments]
