Original Summary
Press Fn twice, talk, press Fn twice again, and your words are pasted into whatever app you're using (that's the GIF). I wanted something like Wispr Flow without a subscription, an account, or my voice going to a server, so I built it. You can also hold Fn to talk, press Esc to cancel, and teach it names and jargon it keeps getting wrong. The text comes out exactly as you said it, with no AI rewriting, and your music is muted while you speak. Every transcript is also saved to a clipboard history, so if a paste goes to the wrong window, it's still in the menu. Cmd+Shift+V opens your last 25 items from anywhere: transcripts and anything else you copied. The history is encrypted in your macOS Keychain instead of a plain-text file, so sensitive things you copy, like passwords and API keys, stay locked away and are only readable while your Mac is unlocked. Popy's windows are also hidden from screen sharing and recordings. Everything runs on your Mac and works offline. On Apple silicon with macOS 26+ it uses Apple's on-device speech model, with text ready about 0.2 seconds after you stop. Older and Intel Macs use whisper.cpp. No account, no API key, no word limits. It's MIT licensed, needs macOS 12+, and dictation is English only for now. The app isn't notarized by Apple yet, so install with the script below to skip the Gatekeeper warning. curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/anuragxxd/popy/master/install.sh | bash GitHub: https://github.com/anuragxxd/popy . I'm the developer, so feedback and feature requests are welcome. submitted by /u/PossibilityThat8283 [link] [comments]
