Original Summary
I've been going down a rabbit hole researching the AEO/GEO space (basically SEO for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, etc.), and the valuations are honestly insane. Look at some of these companies: Profound: Raised $180M at a $1.8B valuation. Its earlier funding round implied roughly 90x revenue , and estimates around its recent valuations fall in the 60–90x range . Peec AI: Raised $21M in its Series A after hitting $4M+ ARR in just 10 months. I've seen valuation estimates in the 40 –60x range . Searchable: Raised $14M at an $85M valuation while doing a little over $2M ARR. That's roughly 40x ARR . And it's not just these three. I've come across 300+ AEO/GEO-related tools , with startups in the US, Germany, France, South Korea and pretty much everywhere else building variations of the same thing. A lot of them have nearly identical features: AI brand mentions, prompt tracking, visibility scores, competitor analysis, citations, recommendations, etc. There are even open-source projects offering similar functionality. Some have complete dashboards you can download and self-host. Yet VCs are putting serious money into this category at multiples that most SaaS founders could only dream of. I get that AI search is a huge shift and some of these companies are growing ridiculously fast. But I'm struggling to understand what justifies paying 30x, 50x or even 90x ARR when the market is already this crowded. Is it the growth rates? Are retention and expansion numbers exceptionally good? Is there a moat around data or distribution that isn't obvious from looking at the products? Or are VCs betting that one of these companies becomes the next Semrush or HubSpot for AI search? I'm not saying investors are wrong. If anything, seeing this much capital going into the space makes me think there's something I'm missing. Any VCs or founders here who've looked at AEO/GEO deals? What's the actual investment thesis behind these valuations? submitted by /u/ufvvrayane [link] [comments]
