Original Summary
Side project that got out of hand: a running-shoe sole unit for a men's size 8, fully parametric and print-ready. The whole outline is one 361-point curve (270mm last, 98mm ball, 72mm heel), so changing the size is basically one number. The stack is 30mm heel over 20mm toe (a 10mm drop), a 3mm waffle outsole, a 210-cell hex-lattice midsole with 1.3mm walls, and a raised heel counter - 294 cm3, watertight. It comes out 271mm long, so it doesn't fit a 220mm bed. I split it into heel and toe halves joined by 3 alignment pins at 0.2mm clearance and sliced both headless on a TPU 95A profile: 22h30m plus 19h55m, or 15h01m on a 0.28mm draft. Three real bugs I only caught by measuring the mesh instead of eyeballing it - CGAL choking on 900 coplanar hex faces, a heel counter that was accidentally a solid block, and tread grooves cut too deep for the outsole. All written up. Video plus the STL and OpenSCAD files: https://youtu.be/scVuo4OkGnY Would you actually print a sole unit like this in TPU for real running, or is a printed sole more of a concept piece for you? submitted by /u/Outrageous-Ad1080 [link] [comments]
