Original Summary
There is a book called "What Great Paintings Say". Every chapter starts with a painting where a few details are highlighted to make you curious. Later in the text, they are explained. I really liked the idea and thought it would make a cool app. You tap on a detail and get an explanation. As I happened to like Bruegel and Bosch - and they created these amazing where's-waldo-like paintings packed with cryptic miniscenes - they were the natural first choice. Right now there are five paintings in total - one for Bosch, three for Bruegel, and one by an unknown artist. Only one is fully annotated: "The Proverbs" by Bruegel. It's not much yet, but I hope to add more soon. Creating the content has been largely manual - both drawing the boundaries of individual fragments and writing the explanatory text. There is some automation - with segmentation models and LLMs - but they still make too many mistakes to handle it on their own. All feedback is welcome, for example: bugs and bad UX - let me know where you got frustrated or sighed content - artists, paintings, text, etc. feature ideas This is my first Reddit post, so feedback on the post itself is welcome, too. artdecoded.app submitted by /u/Ok_Dance_3688 [link] [comments]
