Original Summary

I'm building CompileBI on my own. You attach an Excel or CSV file in a chat and get back a Power BI project you can edit. The numbers below come from PostHog and cover Sep 12 (launch) to Oct 15, signed-in accounts only. I left out three accounts that might be mine, so the counts are lower bounds. The video is one real build of a made-up store sales file. 46 people started a build. 41 got a finished report, 39 downloaded it and 8 asked for a change. 61 builds started. 45 ended with a report, 11 failed partway through, and 5 are in neither count. I haven't traced those 5 yet. 8 more attempts never started, all between Sep 23 and Sep 27. From a build being accepted to the report being ready: median 2.9 minutes, 90% within 4.4 minutes (37 builds have timing data). At first, every visitor who wasn't me came from a ChatGPT answer. Google started sending people in October. The 11 failures are clustered. 5 were one person's workbook on Sep 24. 5 happened on one day, Oct 6, in the stages that write the model and the report. The last one, on Oct 14, was in packaging: a check on the .pbit file failed the whole report instead of only that file. I fixed it the same day. Now a .pbit that fails its check is dropped and the .pbip still ships. Between upload and download, it reads every sheet, works out which questions the data can answer, writes the DAX measures, lays out a summary page and drill pages, and returns a .pbip project you open and edit in Power BI Desktop. Most reports also come with a .pbit you can double-click. Every measure is written in DAX and evaluated twice, in Python and in the model, and the two have to agree. If the data can't answer a question, it says which question and why instead of drawing a chart for it. The file is uploaded to CompileBI and deleted on a schedule. The workbook itself never goes to the AI model. The model gets sheet and column names, counts per column, the min and max of number and date columns, the shape of a few entries with every letter and digit replaced, and your note. Columns it recognises as email, phone, ID, IP address or date of birth are sent by name only. What it doesn't do: you need Power BI Desktop to open the output, which is free from Microsoft and Windows-only, and nothing is published to the Power BI service. Every account is on the Free plan: 1 report a month and 1 change to it. compilebi.com submitted by /u/Horror-Ad-1783 [link] [comments]
