Original Summary

I’ve been building A Nomad’s Guide on my own for a while. I started it as a personal bucket list project during the pandemic. I started a website and used it as a blog of places I've been for a couple of years, but I kept feeling that it wasn't fully what I wanted to do. Over the past few months, I've used the data I've gathered over the past 6 or so years and created a curated guide to places around the world worth visiting. The places are organised as collections you can work through, past the general "bucket lists" like country counting or the 7 wonders. Some of the main features and problems I've tried to solve: Travel Lists- Users can pick a country, a category like temples, or a curated list like World's Iconic Opera Houses, and mark the places you’ve been Accomplishments - Each collection has a progress ring and a rank that goes up as you collect Visuals - There’s a globe that fills in, a timeline of your visits, and shareable cards for your map or a finished list. The catalog is about 9,200 places right now. Past Travel - Years of travel is hard to add to a new platform, there’s a backfill screen where you pick a country and tap the places you recognise instead of typing anything. For the build, I've been using some basic components: supabase, mapbox, stripe, and hope to eventually move it to the Apple App Store if the concept proves successful. I also have a Premium version to add your own collections, journeys, and complex map filters. I have not launched it widely, so I can’t give you retention numbers. That’s why I’m here. Some questions I have about the project for anyone willing to help me make this better! Does the first screen make sense without me explaining it? Is the ring and achievement rank motivating or gimmicky? What’s the first place you’d expect to find and can’t? Happy to answer anything about the stack or the catalog! submitted by /u/dakotakoenig [link] [comments]
